Welcome to the Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) portal

An industry-supported single rating scheme for workshops and maintenance facilities aimed at raising standards in facilities and skills across the commercial vehicle industry.

About the Scheme

The Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) is an independent recognition created by the industry for the industry with support from industry bodies, DVSA and the Office of Traffic Commissioners. Aimed at workshops and maintenance facilities of all sizes, MPRS is a single rating scheme that gauges performance of current facilities and workforce quality through comprehensive audits and collective evidence.

MPRS puts the spotlight on improving current standards across workshops and maintenance facilities across the nation, highlighting non-compliant and unsafe practices that compromise safety and standards within the commercial industry.

Endorsed by the sector, an MPRS rating reflects the competency of a workshop’s facilities and technical expertise. The higher the rating, the greater the confidence operators should have in the competences.

The Ratings Explained

Participating in an MPRS audit demonstrates to your clients and stakeholders that you are willing to have your facilities and workforce quality audited by an independent entity backed by DVSA.

MPRS is an industry-recognised performance indicator workshops and maintenance facilities can use to demonstrate their competency, compliance and credibility, thus cementing your reputation amongst your clients and trust amongst the wider society.

  • your regulatory compliance
  • your commitment to continuous improvement across your facilities, equipment and people
  • your adherence to industry-defined standards and best practice across your network.

For Operators

For operators working with external workshops and maintenance facilities, MPRS is a beacon of confidence.

MPRS-recognised workshops and maintenance facilities demonstrate that they meet industry-defined standards.

It provides you with the assurance that you are partnering with workshops and maintenance facilities that are constantly monitoring, auditing and benchmarking their facilities and people.

Participating in this scheme provides a structured framework to assess and improve your maintenance operations, leading to higher vehicle reliability and safety.

Working with MPRS-recognised service providers means:

  • You have the assurance that you’re working with verified service providers with varying standards.
  • You gain a clear understanding of what you’re getting for your budget, and the levels of over-sight and checking required.
  • You have the confidence that your service providers are serious about standards and are regularly improving them.
  • You can mitigate risks associated with self-certified or unvetted service providers.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MPRS is a structured rating scheme designed to evaluate and recognise commercial vehicle workshops’ standards, quality of maintenance, facilities, and staff competence. The scheme aims to improve standards, ensure best practices, and provide assurance to operators and industry regulators.
Any workshop or maintenance facility responsible for the maintenance and servicing of commercial vehicles, including HGVs, PSVs, and specialist fleet vehicles, can apply for MPRS accreditation.
You can apply for Qualified & Bronze levels online through a self-audit process, providing the required evidence, and submitting it online. If applying for Silver, Gold or Platinum please don’t hesitate to email us at mprs@soe.org.uk A member of the team will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Depending on the accreditation level you’re applying for, you’ll need evidence of staff qualifications, training certificates, workshop facilities and equipment, compliance with health and safety regulations, and quality assurance documentation. Specific criteria details are provided clearly in the audit documentation.
There are five distinct MPRS levels (Level 1 to Level 5). Each level requires different standards of evidence and facilities, with Level 1 representing foundational compliance and Level 5 representing exemplary standards with full facility capabilities, advanced staff qualifications, and robust quality assurance systems.
Typically, the accreditation process takes around 2 to 8 weeks from the initial application to final certification, subject to scheduling availability, the completeness of documentation, and any required corrective actions following the audit.
If your workshop doesn’t meet all required criteria at the audit, you’ll receive detailed feedback highlighting areas needing improvement. There is a referral period of 30 days where you can then rectify these issues to achieve the desired rating.

A: Accreditation is valid for three years, after which you’ll need to undertake a renewal audit to retain your MPRS rating.

Achieving MPRS accreditation demonstrates your workshop’s commitment to high standards, enhancing your credibility and reputation with clients and regulatory authorities. It can also improve your operational efficiency, staff performance, and overall competitive advantage.
Audits are conducted by qualified and experienced auditors appointed by SOE/IRTE, RHA & Logistics UK who have extensive industry experience and thorough knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance standards.
MPRS accreditation complements IRTE Workshop Accreditation by focusing specifically on maintenance provision standards. While there is overlap, MPRS specifically recognises and rates your maintenance capability levels. Both can be audited concurrently for operational convenience and cost-efficiency.
No, MPRS does not replace the IRTE Workshop Accreditation. They are distinct but complementary schemes.
